Air conditioners, especially in the Midwest, are an essential part of life. Most of us don't want to have to even think about life without one. However, many new homeowners have no idea what it takes to keep these units in good, working order. To make sure the A/C in your own home doesn’t “lose its cool” when you need it the most, there are two critical maintenance tasks you must follow:
“
Like any major home system or appliance, your air conditioner requires proper care to function as it should.
”
1. Never, I repeat: Never! run your A/C unit if the temperature outside hasn’t been higher than 60 degrees Fahrenheit for at least 24 consecutive hours. Doing so could cause your compressor to seize up, and it is not inexpensive to fix an issue like this.
2. Change your air filter and get your unit professionally serviced regularly. Failing to maintain these simple and regular tasks could reduce the lifespan of your A/C unit and lower its efficiency over time.
Like any major home system or appliance, your air conditioner requires you to properly care for it. Hopefully, these steps have helped you understand the basics of caring for the air conditioning unit in your home.
