You know what that means? A whole new month of Madison events!
The birds are chirping, the flowers are blooming, and you should be out exploring! Read on to hear about what I find to be the coolest events that we have going on in Madison and Dane County for the month of May, 2019.
Garding Against Cancer Third Annual Signature Event
When: Saturday, May 4th from 5:30-10:30PM Where: Kohl Center, 601 W. Dayton St., Madison, WI 53715 How much: $175.00 / ticket - get your tickets here. What: Support cancer research by throwing on your grass skirt and lei for a tropical themed reception and silent auction. The Carbone Cancer Center at UW Madison's School of Medicine and Public Health is hosting with over 50 additional families, businesses, and people sponsoring. See below for a snapshot of the night.
Walk MS: Madison, WI 2019
When: Sunday, May 5th - site opens at 8:30AM, registration begins at 9:00AM, and the walk begins at 10:00AM Where: Warner Park, 2930 N Sherman Ave, Madison, WI 53704 How much: It's free to walk but they're happily accepting donations here. You can also join/start a team; when you raise $100.00 or more, you'll receive a Walk MS t-shirt! What: Walk MS is an awareness/fundraising event which aims to end the terrible disease known as Multiple Sclerosis. This disease disrupts the passing of information from the brain to the body while attacking both. All ages are welcome to participate in either the 1-mile or 3-mile route. Madison Maker's Spring Market and Pub Crawl
When: Saturday, May 11th from noon through 5:00PM Where: High Noon Saloon, Giant Jones Brewing Company, Old Sugar Distillery, Bos Meadery, Brinklounge Madison - all within walking distance on East Main St downtown Madison How much: Free! All you have to pay for are the items you purchase and food and beverage you consume. What: This is a come one, come all event! Get your Mother's Day gift just in time when you're shopping over 60 makers. Vendors (TBA) will be around to provide food and drinks for purchase for the entire family. For the 21 years and older group: please note that drinking will not be allowed in the streets between the participating locations. Please finish your drink before moving on to the next establishment!
When: Saturday, May 18th from 3-6PM Where: McPike Park, 202 S Ingersoll St, Madison, WI 53703 How much: $50.00 / person ; additional pairing classes for purchase at $15.00 / person - buy your tickets here. What: Join the Isthmus crew for Madison's only wine fest! With your $50.00 ticket, you'll get a sampling glass with unlimited (or at least until you're making a fool of yourself) 2oz. pours from over 30 wineries, some native to Madison and some with a few extra miles to travel. Food carts and tents will be set up on site with grub pairings available for purchase. The Lower 5th will be there providing some tunes for the afternoon. As I noted above, there will also be breakout pairing classes (see below). In each class, you'll get three sample courses; classes are available for purchase when you buy your general admission ticket and do not include entry into the fest.
Violent Femmes at the Sylvee
When: Saturday, May 18th - doors open at 6:30PM, show starts at 8:00PM Where: The Sylvee, 25 S Livingston St, Madison, WI 53703 How much: You can purchase tickets starting at 35.00 / person on Stubhub. Tickets for sale on Ticketmaster are starting at $36.00 / person. What: The Violent Femmes, a group of Milwaukee natives and one of my dad's favorite bands in the 80s, will be in Madison in a few weeks! If you haven't heard of them, here you go (you're welcome in advance). The best part is that you can go to Isthmus Uncorked and then Uber on over to the Sylvee right after!
When: Memorial Day weekend AKA May 24th-26th - check below for more details Where: Madison Capitol Square && Monona Terrace How much: The expo is free! Prices for each race vary: register for your race(s) of choice here. What: This runner's health and fitness expo is put on by SSM Health and includes a run for everyone. The free expo will be both Friday night and Saturday and will host a ton of vendors just waiting to give you their fitness tips and goodies! While you're at the expo, you can pick your packet up for whichever race you decide to participate in. There's a kid's race around the Capitol Square, a nighttime 5K, a nighttime 10K, a half marathon, and several options to do combo packs, so take your pick!
