Calling All Coffee Lovers:
If you haven't already, it's time for you to move to Madison, WI. Not only do we have amazing fish fry options (as seen in last week's blog) but we also have delicious, frothy, flavorful caffeine on caffeine on CAFFEINE.
I typically try to take coffee from home to work in order to save money and time. However, when I forget to set up Mr. Coffee the night before, chaos undoubtedly ensues the next morning. That's why it's nice to know the local coffee shops that are on the way to work and that know how to make quality coffee without skimping on the caffeine levels.
So whether you run out of time to make your own coffee, or just want a froofy beverage made by a professional to start your day, here's a list of Madison's favorite coffee shops for you to refer to when on the go and/or in a bind.
Feel free to click the coffee shop name to be directed to their website.
Homegrown in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Beans 'N Cream is everything you need in a coffeehouse.
The baristas are friendly and knowledgeable, the baked items are fresh and delectable, and the coffee is always ALWAYS on point. They offer plenty of original coffee drinks as well as food items, i.e. pastries, sandwiches, salads, etc.
The Main St bakehouse location has a drive-thru, so if you don't feel like walking in public before you've had your first cup o' joe, you're set. And, if you're a super early-riser on the weekends, then you can find them at the Sun Prairie Farmer's Market!

At the Prairie Cafe & Bakery, food and baked goods are made fresh in-house and Colectivo coffee (AKA a gift from the coffee gods) is served all day.
Prairie Cafe & Bakery offers an extensive menu that literally has something for everyone. In addition to their normal menu, they have daily specials: a daily breakfast special, a quiche of the day, multiple soups of the day, a daily lunch special, AND a salad of the day. To be honest, their daily specials' menu is longer than the full menu you'll find at most cafes. Another plus is you'll find more seating here than your typical coffeehouse/cafe.
They love to feature local artwork and occasionally host events outside of normal business hours. If you cruise on over on February 15th from 5:30 to 8PM, you can enjoy their Café Jazz Night series featuring Gerri Dimaggio’s World Jazz Unit. There will be a special dinner menu offered along with beer and wine.

MOKA has your local coffee shop feel, but has multiple locations so you don't have to miss you if you're not in Madison.
Moka is unique in that when you pull up to the drive-thru, someone will actually walk outside (even if it's -10 degrees) and take your coffee order from you. I love it! They offer seasonal themed coffee drinks (see below), cold brews, teas, smoothies, shakes, and snacks (parfaits, pastries, oatmeal, and sweet bars). You can even purchase their coffee beans, merchandise, and gift cards right online.
Though I've only been to two of MOKA's locations, I've always had great experiences with their baristas and window greeters.

Helbachs is a family coffeehouse with food and beverages inspired by the family's travels and love for cooking.
There's nothing I love more than a ma and pa shop. That's why I love Helbachs. Their menu features homemade bakery items, like pastries and desserts, recipes straight from their kitchen at home, and house beverages, including coffee that will keep you coming back. The atmosphere is laid back and cozy, with rustic yet trendy furniture and decor; I wouldn't mind for them to come decorate my house while I drink one of their delightful macchiatos.
Still, my favorite part of Helbachs is the monthly coffee subscription they offer (see above photo). You can pick between three different coffees to get delivered right to your front door for only $14.95/month+shipping. If you don't feel like paying shipping costs and you live nearby, simply stop by and pick up your 1 lb bag subscription!

Yola's Cafe not only serves great coffee and food, but also donates some of their proceeds to local charities.
Every month there is a Waffle Donation Creation. Every time you purchase the Waffle Donation Creation, $1.00 spent on that waffle goes towards the chosen, local, non-profit organization of the month. This month is a Nutella Banana Waffle which benefits the Leading with Power organization. This organization builds up men to be better husbands, fathers, and leaders. And that's why I love Yola's, because even if I'm on a diet, it's for charity so it doesn't count! If the Donation Creation waffle of the month doesn't appease you, then build your own waffle by piling on as many toppings as you can fit. Or enjoy Yola's popular Golden Malted Belgian waffles, prepared just the way Grandma Yola used to make them, simple with some powdered sugar on top.
Yola's is good to the community, but they're also good to you (their customers). They serve breakfast all day and lunch from 11AM-close. They're kid friendly and family owned; it doesn't get much better than that! They also have a fireplace for the chilly weather, a patio for breezy summer days, and great food and coffee every day.

Barriques offers freshly roasted beans from right here, in Madison, WI.
If you have yet to experience Barriques, you're missing out. It's the ultimate hybrid between a coffee shop, a trendy cafe, a market, and a liquor store. Their eat-in menu offers a wide selection of food, coffee, espresso, wine, beer, and spirits. Their carry out goods stretch from beer to wine to chocolate to coffee. They also have bi-weekly wine/beer tastings on Fridays.
Still not completely sold? Take a look at their monthly wine clubs. They offer month-to-month, 3-month, 6-month, and year long subscriptions. In addition to the multiple different contracts you can sign up for, there are also several wine club options you can choose from. Therefore, you can be a little more specific if your wine tastes aren't broad. The clubs include discounts and benefits for in-store purchase as well.
