Summertime, and the Livin's Easy

Happy almost June, everyone!

June is probably my favorite month of the year. Why, you ask?
1. It's my birthday month and who can truly say they don't like their birthday?
2. It's the beginning of summer! I'm not a huge fan of super hot weather, but I do love an excuse to get out and hike, and what better excuse is there than the beginning of warm weather?
3. It's the beginning of 90+ days of constant outdoor events! There's nothing like gathering with a crowd of sweaty people, drinking cold beverages, and jamming out to some good music.

If you're on the same page as me with #3, then grab a pencil so you can get some of this summer's hottest events on your calendar!

Hozier at the Sylvee

When: Saturday, June 1st; doors open at 7:00PM for an 8:00 start
Where: the Sylvee, downtown Madison
How much: General Admission tickets starting at $66.30 on Stubhub.
What: Join in on the Wasteland, Baby! Tour 2019 with Bailen, in honor of the release of Hozier's new album. His first big hit, Take Me to Church, put his name on the international music map in the summer of 2013. The show is this weekend so, if you're interested in attending, you'll want to get your tickets ASAP! If you're not really sure, then lend an ear to the Irish indie rock musician's music here.

Burgers and Brew

When: Saturday, June 1st at 4:00PM
Where: Capital Brewery in Middleton
How much: Buy general admission tickets for $40.00 or VIP tickets for $75.00.
What: Come one burger and beer lover, come all! This event is for those of you who just can't seem to pass up a good pairing event. Capital Brewery will be hosting, while tons of talented local chefs and brewers will be showcasing specialty burgers and beers. A general admission ticket gets you in at 4:00PM to taste three sliders, three beers, and one side, dessert, or smoothie. If you purchase a VIP ticket, you'll get to start tasting at 3:30PM and have unlimited tastings through the end of the event! If you buy a GA ticket and decide mid-event that three pairings just won't be enough, you're welcome to buy extra punch cards for additional tasters. If you'd like to bring the kiddos, they're welcome to tag along for free. Going with a group of friends? If you have six or more in your crew, you qualify for a special discount code. See below for this year's featured pairings.

Ironman 70.3 Wisconsin

When: Sunday, June 9th, 7:00AM SHARP - other event schedule details can be found here.
Start and finish at Olin Park!
How much:
Registration is $325.00/competitor.
The Ironman 70.3 is a 70.3 mile triathlon, consisting of a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike ride, and a 13.1 mile run. We're lucky enough, here in Madison, that we get to host this amazing event that is a true test of strength! Not only is there the option of swimming, biking, and running the entire course by yourself, but there's also the option of putting together a relay team. So, if you think you've got what it takes both physically and mentally to swim/bike/run over 70 miles, then get signed up! I, on the other hand, will be clapping from the sidelines while eating something extremely unhealthy.

Fools Flotilla

When: Sunday, June 9th, 9:00AM check-in, start floating at 10:00AM
Where: Boat launch is at Tenney Park (see map below)
How much: Free!!! They do require registration, though, since this is a very popular event!
What: This free boat float morning is known as the "grand entrance to the Marquette Waterfront Festival". You do need to provide your own boat, personal floatation devices, and costume (as foolish as you see fit). At 11:30AM, the official band of the Fool's Flotilla, the River Rats, will take the stage. Come out and float at your own risk!

Bacon and Brews

When: Saturday, June 29th starting at 1:00PM
Breese Stevens Field
How much:
General admission is $60.00 plus applicable fees while VIP is $80.00 (but seemingly worth it).
All you can drink beers and all you can eat bacon for four. straight. hours. With nearly 100 craft breweries supplying beer and a ton of local chefs creating bacon infused dishes, you will not leave with an empty or a disappointed stomach. You can either buy a GA ticket and show up at 1:00PM or spend a few extra dollars on the VIP ticket and start indulging at 11:00AM. If you do decide you want to go with VIP entry, not only do you get two extra hours of drinking and eating, but you also get air conditioned suites and bathrooms, comfy furniture to lounge on, and catered food and drinks to your VIP suite. Either entry comes with a custom sample glass that you can take home if you manage not to break it during the shenanigans. Because this is an alcohol infused festival, no one under the age of 21 will be admitted.

Shake the Lake

 June 29th from 5:00-11:00PM
Monona Terrace
How much:
Free! Unless you decide to purchase some VIP passes to either the iHeart Radio Rooftop Party or the private Lake View Seating
Shake the Lake is back! Not all of the entertainment and refreshments for this year have been announced but the live music line-up is scheduled and it looks amazing. The rock n' rollers Hairball will take the stage with plenty of 80s covers. In addition, we'll get to enjoy the voices and musical talents of three awesome country artists: Lee BriceDylan Scott, and Dylan Schneider. And, in case you forgot, IT'S FREE! The food, beer, and wine will be available for purchase, and have been pretty delectable in year's past (see below for 2018 food vendors).

Like I said before, June brings a ton of events to Madison. The above listed are only a few of my favorites. Feel free to get on EventBrite, Isthmus, or your trusty Google search engine and look up all of the event possibilities you have in Madison this summer!
