2. Type in the property address you're inquiring into, click 'Find Your Home', then select the correct home.
3. Once you've read through the description of what makes that home great in itself, scroll down almost entirely to the bottom of the page (it'll be at the end of that home's details).
4. When you're here, you can search for directions from your workplace, favorite coffee shop, current location, etc. to the house. You can also click 'Bird's Eye View' to check out the Google Earth view of the home and neighborhood. Some of the listings even have a 'Street View' tab that allows you to see the house head on. However, what I'd like you to do is click on the 'Get Local' category.
Now for the real fun!
The first tab you'll come across in Get Local is nearby amenities. This will list the 10 closest (typically within 3 miles of the property) amenities, including: restaurants, shopping, post offices, and other businesses. If you click on the business name, the map produces a pop up to show you exactly where it is. As you can see from the screenshot below, the business address, phone number, category, and distance are all listed as well.
I don't know about you but I always like to see if there are any good restaurants or coffee shops within walking distance of wherever I am.
In my single year of real estate, I've learned that one of the most important factors in a homebuyer's decision is the school district the house(s) are in. Don't be fooled: just because the young man looking to buy doesn't have children, that doesn't mean he's not buying his first home in preparation of starting a family.
That being said, the second tab in Get Local displays all of the nearby schools and includes their address, website (so you can do your own research on how the school is rated), the classification (pre-school, elementary, etc.), and the distance to the listing you're viewing.
The last neat feature of Get Local is the Neighborhood Information tab. This tab gives you demographics of the neighborhood, average home worth, crime risk, average temperatures in the winter and summer, and even includes a 'locations' section that informs you of the closest airport, 2 & 4 year colleges, and major sports team.
Though finding out the closest sports team may not sway your home buying decision (unless you're a Chicago Bears fan moving to Madison, WI), it's still a fun fact to have such easy, effortless access to.
And there you have it, Get Local! Now go ahead and get to searching on our website so you can find out what homes are in the school district you love, have amazing restaurants nearby, and are soaked with Green Bay Packers' fans!
