Green Beer and Corned Beef Hash for Days!

Whether you're of Irish descent or you're simply someone who likes to celebrate the most prominent Patron Saint of Ireland, you're probably looking forward to this weekend.

If you're unsure of what I'm talking about, then you're a little behind on the news. Let me catch you up: this weekend is St. Patrick's Day, a day where, in America, we celebrate with green beer, corned beef hash, leprechauns, and the occasional jig. In fact, I may be one of the only people who doesn't celebrate because I'm busy showering my father with love (it's his birthday).

Anyway, here in Madison, we do not take St. Patrick's Day celebrating lightly. You'll likely see green people stumbling all throughout the streets of downtown. You'll find green glitter, beads, confetti, four leaf clovers, etc. in your hair, car, and home for days. You won't be able to get the smell of sauerkraut out of your clothes for weeks. Because it's such an important time for so many Dane County dwellers, I decided to dedicate this week's post to the special occasion.

Therefore, below you'll find a list of the best places to go in the Madison area for the weekend!

Erin's Snug St. Patrick's Weekend Celebration

When: Saturday, March 16th and Sunday, March 17th
Where: Erin's Snug on the East side of Madison
What: An authentic St. Patrick's Day Celebration PLUS a pub crawl, in Madison! As you can see below, there will be prizes, live music, and green beer; what more could you ask for?

The Village Green

When: Saturday, March 16th at 10:30AM
Where: The Village Green at 7508 Hubbard Ave, Middleton
What: A full day of Irish traditions (or what we consider to be Irish): green beer, Jameson and Tullamore DEW on special, fish and chips, and corned beef hash sandwiches. If you've ever been to Village Green, then you know they will NOT disappoint.

The 22nd Annual St. Patrick's Day Celebration and Parade

When: Sunday, March 17th at 12PM
Where: Capitol Square in Madison
What: Wear your green and head on down to the Capitol. At noon, the Dane County Shamrock Club will raise Ireland's flag. Then, at 1:20, there will be a raffle drawing on the corner of Wisconsin and Mifflin. I'm here to tell you that the prize is UNBELIEVABLE (see below); you won't want to miss out. And, at 1:30, the March to the Harp begins! As if this all doesn't sound fantastic as is, the entire day of fun is actually a fundraiser that benefits UW Paul P. Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center, GiGi's Playhouse Madison, and Logan's Heart and Smiles. So show your support, flaunt your Irish heritage (whether it be genuine or faux), and let's celebrate! If you'd like to sign up to be in the parade or to be a volunteer for the day, click here.

McGovern's St Patrick's Celebration

When: Festivities start today, March 13th and go through Sunday, March 17th
Where: McGovern's at 820 West Main St, Sun Prairie
What: A pub run by an Irish immigrant's grandchild, throwing a REAL Irish St. Patrick's Day! There will be different specials throughout the week, so make sure to check their website for the most up-to-date information.

Brocach Irish Pub & Whiskey Den

When: Specials start as soon as the doors open on St. Patrick's Day AKA 10AM
Where: Brocach on the Capitol Square in Madison
What: A true Irish Pub celebrating their favorite day of the year! Brocach will offer a traditional Irish menu, including corned beef and cabbage. At 3:30, the Currach (an Irish/Madison trio) will be playing live music. And, of course, green beer will be flowing all day!

St. Patrick's Day Weekend at HopCat

When: Starting Friday, March 15th and going through St. Patrick's Day
Where: HopCat Madison at 222 W Gorham St
What: Because they don't feel like waiting until Sunday to celebrate, HopCat is hosting a full weekend of festivities. This includes specials that are only available for three days out of the year (and they sound absolutely delicious) so you might want to throw this one on your calendar!

Though there are many other places hosting St. Patrick's Day celebrations, these were my favorites. Feel free to search the world wide web for more if none of these completely fit your needs.

Last but not least, I'm sure you've seen the upcoming weather: sunshine, snowmelt, and finally some warm temps! That being said, homebuyers and sellers alike are about to come out of hibernation.

So, if you want to get ahead of the curve to see the current homes on the market or to get your home listed before the rest of Dane County does, give us a shout!
